mt elbert hike review

Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Problem is, most that climb this mountain don't seem to be experienced and assume easy means easy for everyone. However, I found that the views from Mt Elbert were extremely sub-par.

After many breaks, many self-deprecating admonishments, and 3,400 ft. elevation gain, I ran out of water. The two “false peaks” are... Elevation mark 13,200 – 13,800 contain the highest grades of hiking with the worst trail conditions. Get there early! About a 1/4 later, turn onto CR11/Halfmoon Road. Don’t approach the summit after 930 or it will be post hole city for the last two miles. Camping spots do fill up quickly, especially during the summer.

Although camping is not allowed at the trailhead, there is a campground (Half Moon) in addition to plenty of spots along road CR11/Halfmoon Road. This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States.
