Roald Dahl clearly has a point to make here, but never does the reader feel he is preaching; he's just reveling in giving spoiled kids their most perfectly just comeuppance. Awards I have to be honest and the fact that I love "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and were constantly comparing the two contributed highly to my opinion. Roald Dahl's magical tale of a young boy's adventure in the strange factory was spell-binding.

What that film and the work of Roald Dahl have in common is charm, warmth, eccentricity etc. Soft, nostalgic artwork for dreamers of all ages. My wife & I went to see this today (3rd August2005); we were really looking forward to it because of all the media hype and the trailer looking great.

Seemed like one small touch to it and it would just fall like a deck of cards. Instead, I’ll leave you with Mike Teavee’s Oompa Loompa song in its entirety. But did you ever stop to think, Charlie visits the chocolate factory along with four bratty children: greedy Augustus Gloop, chewing gum addict Violet Beauregarde, spoiled Veruca Salt, and television-obsessed Mike Teavee. Wonka's revelation of this fact leads him to make an offer to Charlie that is more than any child might dream and turns the future of Wonka's factory on its head.

This movie was simply awful.

There are no discussion topics on this book yet. This movie may have been considered good only if you have never seen one: the original movie two: you have never read the book and three: you have never seen a johnny depp movie. I don't know how he did it, but he got the facial expressions of Charlie's family and of Mike Teavea's father down perfectly.

But back to the fact that he played ALL of the Oompa Loompas, would it have hurt to get more than ONE person to play the parts??!? And stare until their eyes pop out. They had an eerie kind of synchronization which was so unnatural that it was scary. This movie was simply awful.

Who choreographed them?!

But, that would be called canibalism. Just How The Camel Got His Hump, But dude, i'm still stumped.

From his garish clothing, to his seeming obliviousness to anyone who thinks him odd, to his indifference to the well-being of the other children who, along with Charlie, win one of the golden tickets to be able to tour his factory (but who, unlike him are spoiled brats), Wonka clearly lives up to the word which his name closely resembles. This is the first chapter book I've read all the way through with him.

Millennium Childrens' Book Award, 2000 Year Published. Rich, and bad.

Tim Burton has successfully digitized and sterilized the Chocolate Factory universe, and in so doing has destroyed a wonderful piece of pop culture.
