JBA offers a selection of liberal arts and sciences courses taught by Truman Faculty that simulate the experience of a first-year college student. Beyond academics, our staff is building an online social experience utilizing the same online tools as classes. These are smart kids, but not college students yet. They cannot receive extra compensation for working JBA over and above their 12-month contract. However, to continue providing our students with outstanding learning opportunities, we will be offering the 2020 Joseph Baldwin Academy in an online format, and at a significantly reduced rate, to those who are interested.

JBA offers highly talented students a head start on their future university careers by allowing them to spend three weeks as college freshmen: they move into a residence hall, adapt to living with a roommate, eat dorm food, make new friends, attend classes and work with Truman faculty. These are not routinely run on university faculty, so JBA faculty will need to complete the procedure at least once. Students must also set up their student account* in order to access Email and Blackboard. Faculty also must complete written evaluations of their students in the week following the completion of classes. Faculty are provided with an initial list of 30-35 of the top students interested in their courses. That said, these are middle school kids. A: JBA faculty are not permitted to hold another teaching assignment – even online teaching – when working for JBA.
However, some subjects have experienced a shortage of available faculty and we do occasionally bring in Truman alumni to teach when needed.
